We get asked all the time what kind of equipment we use. Short answer: a Bandit SG-40 track-mounted stump grinder. It's the backbone of our operation and the reason we can grind stumps faster and cleaner than most companies in Upstate SC.
WHAT IS THE BANDIT SG-40?
It's a commercial-grade, track-mounted stump grinder made by Bandit Industries. The tracks mean it can go places wheeled grinders can't — soft ground, hills, tight backyards. It weighs about 1,600 lbs and has a 40 HP Kohler engine that delivers serious cutting power.
WHY TRACKS MATTER
A lot of companies use wheeled stump grinders. Those work fine on flat, dry ground. But in Upstate SC, we deal with hills, wet yards, and tight spaces constantly. The SG-40's rubber tracks spread the weight out so we don't tear up your lawn getting to the stump. We can also get into fenced backyards, between landscaping, and up slopes that would stop a wheeled machine.
GRINDING DEPTH & SPEED
The SG-40 grinds 12+ inches below grade, which is deeper than most homeowner-grade or rental grinders can manage. That matters because if you're planning to plant grass, lay sod, or build something over the stump site, you need it ground deep enough that roots won't cause problems.
On a typical 24-inch stump, we're done in 15-20 minutes. Bigger stumps (30"+) take 25-35 minutes depending on the species. Hardwoods like oak take longer than pines.
THE BOTTOM LINE
The equipment matters. A commercial Bandit SG-40 gets the job done faster, deeper, and cleaner than rental machines or smaller grinders. That's why we invested in one — so every customer gets the same professional result, whether it's a small ornamental stump or a 4-foot oak.
